Curious About Chiropractic? Here Are Answers To The Top 5 Frequently Asked Questions

Whether you are exploring chiropractic care for the first time or have embraced chiropractic to be part of your health care regime, we understand that questions can pop up along the way. So, this week we are doing things a little differently, by answering some Frequently Asked Questions to assist understanding and hopefully enhance your chiropractic journey! 1. Can chiropractic care only help back pain? Whilst we take care of many people who are struggling with back pain who experience incredible results during care, maintaining the health of the spine and body with chiropractic care can assist with so much more. Chiropractic care is effective for a variety of complaints, such as headaches, neck pain, cramp and muscle spasms, joint pain, shoulder injuries, and assisting with migraine prevention. As well as visiting for a particular concern, many people choose chiropractic as a form of preventative care, helping to keep their body working at its best which prevents those frustrating symptoms from starting in the first place. 2. Are chiropractic adjustments painful? The aim of a chiropractic adjustment is to create more ease within the body, therefore, adjustments are very comfortable to receive. There are occasions when people visit in a lot of pain and due to this, some of the positions required to give the adjustments may create temporary discomfort, but we aim to minimise this and adapt care accordingly. Following an adjustment and especially at the start of care, there can be some temporary muscle soreness or stiffness experienced as the body gets used to a new way of working, similar to what would be experienced following the start of a new exercise routine. 3. Do chiropractic adjustments always involve a ‘crack’? When the term ‘crack’ is used it implies something is broken, and this is certainly not the case with chiropractic adjustments! We have a variety of techniques we can use in practice and not all will create a noise. Sometimes an adjustment can create a ‘popping’ or ‘clicking’ sound. If a noise is heard, it is just the release of gas within the fluid sac of the joint as it moves during the adjustment which is perfectly normal. 4. Is chiropractic care safe? Chiropractic care is safe and effective, carrying minimal risks in comparison to other treatment methods such as surgery or long-term drug use. Injuries from chiropractic care are rare, and are minimised greatly from the information provided at the initial visit, which includes taking a detailed medical history and carrying out a thorough assessment. 5. Who is chiropractic for? The beauty of chiropractic is that it can benefit people of all ages and abilities, from newborns all the way to our more senior members of the community. Chiropractic care can help people at all stages of life to get their body back on track and maintain optimal health.
